A 200 MW Energy Storage System Complex Launched in Ukraine

11 September 2025, 11:09

Ukraine has put into operation the largest energy storage system complex with a capacity of 200 MW, built by DTEK in partnership with the American company Fluence Energy B.V.

The complex includes six facilities in the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, constructed in a record time of just one year. Investments in the project amounted to €125 million.

In total, the system will be able to store 400 MWh of electricity. This is enough to supply 600,000 households with electricity for two hours.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Svitlana Grynchuk, took part in the opening ceremony and emphasized the importance of the new complex for the country’s energy resilience.

“Every time the enemy tries to destroy our infrastructure, it only accelerates our movement toward the future. The launch of this complex is a practical step to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience. The new capacities increase the reliability and flexibility of the system, reduce the risks of emergency outages, and allow effective preparation for the winter period. It also opens new opportunities for the development of renewable energy and the decentralization of the energy system,” the Minister stressed.

The complex provides Ukraine with additional opportunities for balancing the power system and regulating frequency, which is especially important given the growing share of renewable sources and the ongoing challenges of the war. The new storage systems make it possible to ensure more stable energy supply for citizens and businesses.

The opening of the complex is also a practical step toward implementing the National Renewable Energy Action Plan until 2030.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the DTEK Group and Fluence for their advanced technologies and support, stressing that the project’s goal is not only to restore what has been destroyed but also to build a new, modern, resilient, and “green” energy sector in Ukraine.
