Despite massive russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the country continues consistent preparations for the heating season. First Deputy Minister of Energy Artem Nekrasov announced this live on the national telethon United News.
“russia has been systematically attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for more than three years; during September 8 attack alone, the enemy launched over 800 drones and missiles, including at civilian energy facilities. Thanks to the coordinated work of power engineers, rescuers, and dispatchers, outages for consumers were avoided. There were no casualties or injuries, and restoration works are ongoing,” he emphasized.
According to him, the main strikes are directed at gas production facilities and the gas transmission system, which is an attempt to pressure Ukraine and the EU to disrupt the final rejection of russian energy resources. “russia has always used energy as a weapon, and gas as a tool of blackmail. But we are actively working on diversifying supply routes, developing domestic production, and attracting financial assistance from partners – the EBRD, Norway, the European Investment Bank, the government, and the Naftogaz Group,” Artem Nekrasov noted.
The state is doing everything possible to ensure stable passage through the winter. Repair campaigns are underway at nuclear, thermal, and hydropower facilities; damaged sites are being restored after attacks; cogeneration units and modular boiler houses are being installed in the regions; backup power sources and equipment reserves are being accumulated. This makes communities more resilient and ensures rapid restoration of energy supply in case of damage.
“The main challenge remains enemy attacks, but we have tested response algorithms and various scenarios. Ukrainian power engineers are proving their resilience for the fourth year already. The state, the government, energy workers, the military, and local authorities are doing everything possible to make sure your homes have heat and light in winter,” the First Deputy Minister added.
The Ministry of Energy coordinates the work of all key operators and enterprises, carries out scheduled repairs and maintenance, creates regional equipment reserves, and strengthens the protection of critical infrastructure to guarantee stable energy supply for the population and businesses even under difficult conditions.
