First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine

Denys Shmyhal

Born in 1975 in the city of Lviv.

Higher education – in 1997 graduated from Lviv Polytechnic State University with a degree in Management in the Manufacturing Sector (Mechanical Engineering), qualification: engineer-economist. Holds a Candidate of Economic Sciences degree (PhD equivalent), awarded in 2003.

1995–2009 – held managerial positions at enterprises in Lviv.

2009–2013 – worked at the Lviv Regional State Administration.

In 2014 – appointed Deputy Head of the Main Department of the Ministry of Revenues in Lviv Oblast.

2015–2017 – served as Adviser, Vice President, Chief Executive Officer, and Member of the Supervisory Board of TVK “Lvivkholod” LLC.

2017–2019 – Deputy General Director for Social Affairs of PJSC “DTEK Zakhidenergo”; Director of DTEK Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant; Acting Deputy General Director for Social Affairs of PJSC “DTEK Zakhidenergo” (Burshtyn, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast).

From August 2019 to February 2020 – Head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration.

4 February – 4 March 2020 – Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.

4 March 2020 – 16 July 2025 – Prime Minister of Ukraine.

17 July 2025 – 13 January 2026 – Minister of Defence of Ukraine.

14 January 2026 – appointed First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
