1.4 GW of Gas-Fired Generation Commissioned in Ukraine Since the Start of the Full-Scale Invasion

10 February 2026, 12:45

As of early February, 1.4 GW of distributed gas-fired generation has been commissioned in Ukraine, including 1.1 GW connected to the electricity grid and 0.3 GW installed for self-consumption. In January alone, 192 MW of new capacity was brought online.

Nearly 60% of the commissioned capacity was developed by private investors, while the remainder was implemented by state-owned and municipal enterprises using their own resources and international donor support. Through the Energy Support Fund, projects totaling 196 MW have been implemented in communities, particularly in frontline areas.
Approximately 3 GW of additional projects are currently at various stages of development. The key objective for this year is to fully cover the electricity needs of critical infrastructure in every region through distributed generation.

The draft amendments to the Strategy for the Development of Distributed Generation until 2035 has identified a target requirement of 2.2–2.7 GW of additional guaranteed generating capacity, disaggregated by region.

The Ministry continues to implement measures to simplify regulatory and technical requirements, attract international assistance, and provide technical support to accelerate the deployment of gas-fired generation across Ukraine.
