Ukraine’s energy companies have successfully completed a large-scale repair campaign at all energy facilities across the country, restoring more than 10 GW of generating capacity and fully forming the planned reserves of fuel and lubricants.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk during a briefing attended by Deputy Minister for Communities and Territorial Development Kostyantyn Kovalchuk, Chairman of the Management Board of NPC Ukrenergo Vitaliy Zaychenko, and Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine Serhiy Koretsky.
“Nine power units of nuclear power plants located in the territory controlled by Ukraine are currently in operation. All scheduled maintenance works to prepare for generation, as well as emergency repairs to restore facilities damaged by enemy attacks, have been carried out on time. In total, more than 10 GW of installed capacity has been repaired. Restoration work continues at facilities repeatedly targeted by the enemy,” said Mykola Kolisnyk.
According to him, by order of the Government, energy companies have formed and are constantly replenishing an emergency repair reserve, which is used to carry out urgent repairs and restore facilities following Russian attacks.
A key focus in preparing for the winter season is the decentralization and development of distributed generation capacities. Under the coordination of the Ministry of Energy, equipment - including solar panels and backup power supplies - is being delivered to the regions to strengthen local energy security and reduce the load on the unified power system.
Within the framework of the Government’s “Ray of Hope” programme, 17 solar power plants for hospitals have been installed over the past 100 days.
“Another important task of the Government was the accumulation of fuel and lubricants. We can state that this has been fully achieved as planned. Reserves of natural gas, fuel oil, and other essential resources for the heating season have been formed, and we will continue to maintain sufficient levels of these reserves,” Mr. Kolisnyk emphasized.
In the context of ongoing Russian attacks, Ukraine’s international partners continue to play a crucial role in maintaining the country’s energy resilience. Over the past 100 days, EUR 113 million has been contributed to the Energy Support Fund, with an additional EUR 33.1 million in new commitments announced by partner countries. These funds are used to procure critical energy equipment for rapid repairs following attacks.
Partners are providing both financial and material assistance - during this period, over 1,000 tonnes of humanitarian cargo with essential energy equipment have been delivered from 14 countries worldwide. Cooperation and coordination with partners regarding Ukraine’s urgent needs continue on a daily basis.
In conclusion, the Deputy Minister noted that this winter marks the fourth heating season under wartime conditions. During this time, Ukrainian energy companies have developed effective operational algorithms for emergency response. He also called on citizens to contribute to maintaining stability in the energy system by adhering to the principles of smart and responsible energy consumption.
