Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Anatolii Kutsevol held a meeting with representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine to discuss areas of cooperation aimed at strengthening energy resilience.

The parties paid particular attention to new long-term areas of cooperation, primarily at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant as a unique platform for applied projects in nuclear safety, environmental recovery, and renewable energy.

Anatolii Kutsevol invited the Japanese side to participate in events marking the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.

“For us, this is not only a date of remembrance, but also an important opportunity to draw the attention of the international community to nuclear safety, infrastructure recovery, and continued support for Ukraine. Japan’s own experience in post-nuclear recovery, particularly after Fukushima, provides a unique and highly relevant perspective for our cooperation,” the Deputy Minister noted.

The meeting also explored opportunities to engage leading Japanese technologies in nuclear and radiation safety, as well as renewable energy and decentralized generation for project implementation in Ukraine. Special attention was given to cooperation involving business representatives to develop innovative solutions.

Anatolii Kutsevol expressed gratitude to the Japanese side for its continued support to Ukraine in the context of Russia’s military aggression, particularly in the energy sector. He emphasized the importance of generators and high-capacity transformers provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience.

Representatives of the Embassy reaffirmed that Japan will continue to support Ukraine’s energy sector, including through the provision of equipment, notably in preparation for the next heating season.
