Briefing by the Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Oleksandr Viazovchenko, on the situation in the power system as of 5 January

05 January 2026, 09:49

- Overnight, the enemy carried out another attack on energy infrastructure facilities in a number of regions of Ukraine. As of the morning, consumers remain without electricity in Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Donetsk oblasts. As a result of the enemy attack, the city of Slavutych is completely without power supply. A strike was also recorded on one of the generating facilities in Donetsk oblast. Emergency repair and restoration works are ongoing wherever the security situation allows.

- While carrying out emergency repair and restoration works, a crew of Kharkivoblenergo came under attack by an enemy UAV. There were no casualties.

- In total, more than 100 cases of damage to electricity networks caused by hostilities were recorded over the past week. In almost 20 cases, the enemy deliberately targeted energy infrastructure facilities. The situation remains difficult but under control.

- Consumers in frontline and border regions remain without electricity for extended periods as a result of hostilities. The situation is most challenging in these areas, as restoration of power supply is complicated by constant shelling.

- To balance the power system, electricity imports are being carried out and consumption restrictions are being applied. In most regions, hourly outage schedules and capacity limitation schedules for businesses and industry are in effect.

More details on the situation in the power system are available in the briefing by the Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Oleksandr Viazovchenko.
