Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak met with the newly appointed Energy Advisor of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine, Ms. Daiva Matoniene.
During the meeting, Roman Andarak briefed the Lithuanian side on the current state of Ukraine’s energy system under conditions of ongoing Russian attacks, with particular attention to the situation surrounding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, as well as broader challenges related to the security of nuclear and energy facilities. Despite the extremely difficult security environment, Ukraine’s energy system continues to recover and operate in a stable manner.
The parties devoted special attention to international support for Ukraine’s energy sector. Roman Andarak expressed gratitude to Lithuania for its consistent and substantial assistance, noting its significant contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience.
“Lithuania is among the leading providers of humanitarian and technical assistance to Ukraine. Equipment delivered through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism is already being actively used in emergency restoration works in regions affected by Russian attacks and plays an important role in maintaining the stability of energy supply,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.
The discussion also covered Ukraine’s European integration agenda and Lithuania’s role in advancing this process, particularly in the context of Lithuania’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2027. The interlocutors underscored the importance of enhancing coordination in energy policy and further aligning Ukrainian legislation with European Union standards.
In addition, the parties identified priority areas for cooperation, including the development of green energy, improvement of energy efficiency, and implementation of joint initiatives in the field of renewable energy sources. Potential areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s energy security and ensuring the sustainable development of the energy sector were outlined.
Roman Andarak concluded by stressing that Lithuania’s support is of significant practical value for Ukrainian energy companies and serves as a clear demonstration of European solidarity with Ukraine in the context of Russia’s full-scale aggression.
