Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Olha Yukhymchuk participated in the 11th meeting of Cluster 3 of the Subcommittee on Economic and Other Sectoral Cooperation of the Ukraine-EU Association Committee.
The meeting focused on the harmonisation of Ukraine’s energy legislation with the EU acquis, including issues related to security of supply, internal market reforms, renewable energy, energy efficiency, nuclear safety, and governance.
“Ukraine views its accession as a direct and significant contribution to strengthening the EU’s energy security, increasing diversification of energy supply routes, and, in the long term, enhancing the resilience of the single European energy system. Ukraine remains fully committed to the complete and comprehensive integration of its gas and electricity markets with those of the European Union. This goal underpins Ukraine’s Energy Strategy to 2050 and reflects our long-term vision of a modern, sustainable, resilient and climate-safe energy system,” Olha Yukhymchuk emphasized.
The Deputy Minister informed partners about the ongoing work involving the Ministry of Energy to prepare Ukraine’s negotiating position for accession talks with the EU, particularly regarding Chapter 15 “Energy” and Chapter 21 “Trans-European Networks.”
Special attention was given to key European integration draft laws, foremost the draft law “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Implementation of European Union Legislation on Energy Market Integration, Improving Security of Supply and Competitiveness in the Energy Sector,” which is being prepared for adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the second reading and as a whole.
The discussion also covered the draft laws “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding Strengthening Guarantees for the Exercise of Powers by the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Utilities” and “On Infrastructure Projects of Public Interest in the Energy Sector.”
