First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with Lukas Savickas, Minister of Energy of Lithuania.

The ministers discussed the current needs of Ukraine’s energy sector and the development of joint projects. Denys Shmyhal also congratulated his Lithuanian counterpart on his appointment.

According to Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine and Lithuania are currently working together to accelerate the dismantling of equipment at the Kaunas Combined Heat and Power Plant for its subsequent transfer to Kryvyi Rih. He also expressed hope for continued cooperation on the transfer of equipment from decommissioned Lithuanian energy facilities.

“Ukraine is interested in maximizing gas imports through the Amber Gas Corridor and the Klaipėda LNG Terminal. We also invite Lithuanian state agencies and energy traders to use Ukraine’s underground gas storage facilities. This will strengthen Europe’s energy security. We will continue our cooperation in this area,” Denys Shmyhal said.

The Minister also thanked Lithuania for its €6 million contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, as well as USD 28 million provided through the World Bank’s URTF under the RePoWER initiative.

“We are grateful to Lithuania for the unwavering support the Lithuanian people have provided to Ukraine since the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion,” Denys Shmyhal said.
