First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with Karl Nehammer, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank. The parties discussed the expansion of cooperation in the energy sector.

“Today, our cooperation with the EIB already covers eight projects with a total value of €1.3 billion. We are grateful for the consistent support that helps strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system,” Denys Shmyhal noted.

Key priorities outlined during the meeting included preparation for the upcoming autumn-winter period, restoration of damaged infrastructure, and implementation of medium- and long-term projects.

“We have requested an expansion of the project portfolio and support for new initiatives, in particular in the areas of protection of energy infrastructure, restoration of generation, networks and the gas sector, as well as the creation of equipment reserves,” Denys Shmyhal said following the meeting.

Specific areas of cooperation include:

  • a new electricity grid resilience project;
  • support for the protection of substations;
  • development of cross-border interconnectors and integration with ENTSO-E;
  • decarbonisation projects;
  • development of hydropower.

“We count on the continued participation of the EIB in financing key projects that strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system,” the Minister of Energy emphasised.
