Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Energy, Denys Shmyhal, held a meeting with representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), led by Senior Vice President Yoshikawa Yoshifumi.
Denys Shmyhal expressed his gratitude to the Japanese partners for their comprehensive support of Ukraine’s energy sector.
“Thanks to JICA’s assistance, Ukraine has received generators, transformers, and gas turbines. All of the generators provided are now operating effectively in local communities, helping ensure a reliable electricity supply for people,” the Minister of Energy emphasized.
He also thanked the Japanese side for participating in the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2026) and the meeting of the Energy Ramstein.
“At URC2026, together with the World Bank, we presented the vision for Ukraine’s updated Energy Strategy. We are interested in working closely with our Japanese partners on the implementation of its key priorities,” Denys Shmyhal noted.
During the meeting, the parties discussed specific projects where Japan’s expertise and support could play a particularly important role. These include the development of nuclear energy and cogeneration, the transformation of coal regions, technical support for energy research, and strengthening cooperation between the Ukrainian and Japanese energy industries.
“Japanese equipment is already contributing to strengthening the resilience of Ukraine’s power system. I am confident that our joint projects will become an important part of the recovery and modernization of Ukraine’s energy sector,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.
