First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with members of the Supervisory Board of Energoatom, chaired by Romina Velschi.
The participants discussed the company’s key operational and development priorities.
“One of the core objectives is to expand nuclear generation capacity, which will form the foundation of Ukraine’s new energy architecture. Our ambition is to reach 25 GW of installed nuclear capacity by 2050. On the agenda is the completion of Units 3 and 4 at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant, with plans to construct Units 5 and 6 in the future,” Denys Shmyhal stated.
The Minister emphasized that Ukraine possesses significant potential in the sector and should leverage it to build a vertically integrated system.
“This includes the full cycle—from uranium concentrate extraction and nuclear fuel production to the operation of nuclear power plants and the storage of spent nuclear fuel,” he explained.
All stages of this process can be implemented within Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal stressed. He noted that an important step in this direction is the corporatization of SkhidGZK and its integration into Energoatom. The Government has already submitted the relevant draft law to Parliament.
The meeting also addressed the company’s financial and organizational challenges. The First Deputy Prime Minister underlined that completing the audit of past activities and enhancing transparency in management processes are among the key priorities.
“We must implement the most effective international practices and approaches to corporate governance,” he emphasized.
Denys Shmyhal thanked the Supervisory Board members for their readiness to modernize Energoatom, improve its efficiency, and strengthen Ukraine’s energy security.
