First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The discussion focused on further cooperation to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security, in particular the mobilization of additional financing for natural gas imports.

“We are finalizing arrangements to secure a EUR 85 million grant from one of the European countries through EBRD instruments to purchase additional volumes of gas for Ukraine. We are grateful to our partners for this support,” Denys Shmyhal said.

Denys Shmyhal also briefed Odile Renaud-Basso on the difficult situation in Ukraine’s energy system caused by damage from Russian strikes. He noted that repair teams are working around the clock to restore electricity and heat supply.

“Continued financial support from the EBRD to Ukrainian companies Ukrenergo and Ukrhydroenergo is critically important. It enables repairs, equipment procurement, and the implementation of new solutions so that people can continue to have light and heat,” the First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

Denys Shmyhal thanked the EBRD President and the bank’s entire team for their decisive and consistent support of Ukraine, which contributes to maintaining stability and restoring infrastructure destroyed by Russian attacks.
