First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal discussed the key priorities and objectives facing Ukrainian Distribution Networks JSC with the company’s renewed Supervisory Board.

“We identified the main areas of work. The key priorities include ensuring stable electricity supply to consumers, protecting equipment, preparing for the next winter season, and creating reserves of critical equipment,” the Minister of Energy stated.

During the meeting, Denys Shmyhal heard a report from Acting CEO Oleksandr Pokhylko and held a productive discussion with members of the Supervisory Board. He thanked the company’s management for its readiness to implement international corporate governance practices within Ukrainian Distribution Networks.

“An important reform lies ahead — the separation of universal service suppliers from distribution system operators and the completion of the unbundling process. At my request, the energy ministers of the Baltic and Nordic countries are ready to provide expert support for the implementation of the reform and the development of a governance model for state-owned energy assets. We are actively cooperating with our partners in this area,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.

The Minister stressed that state-owned regional electricity distribution companies managed by Ukrainian Distribution Networks must demonstrate high operational efficiency.

Participants of the meeting also discussed current challenges, including the restoration of damaged equipment. The Minister of Energy instructed that measures be taken to enable distribution system operators to independently procure energy equipment required for restoration works.

The Supervisory Board of Ukrainian Distribution Networks has been operating for two months. During this period, it has held eight meetings, as well as consultations with the management of state-owned regional electricity distribution operators.

“I thank the renewed Supervisory Board of Ukrainian Distribution Networks for its readiness to cooperate in implementing corporate governance reforms and improving the performance of state-owned regional electricity distribution companies,” Denys Shmyhal concluded.
