As part of the visit of the Ukrainian delegation led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Germany, the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, held a meeting with the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katherina Reiche.

The Minister expressed gratitude for the close cooperation and substantial support provided to Ukraine’s energy sector. “The total volume of assistance has already reached €552 million — a significant contribution to the restoration and strengthening of our energy system,” he noted.

During the meeting, Denys Shmyhal raised the issue of transferring a 38 MW gas turbine unit associated with the Nord Stream infrastructure for the needs of Ukrnafta, in particular for the repair of the Kryvyi Rih thermal power plant.

“This would be an important political decision. I am grateful to our German colleagues who are already working on this issue,” the Minister stated.

The parties agreed to enhance cooperation in procuring the necessary equipment for the restoration of energy infrastructure and building reserves ahead of the 2026/2027 heating season. In particular, this includes the use of equipment from decommissioned energy facilities in Germany.

The ministers also paid special attention to the development of cooperation in biomethane exports. Germany remains a priority market for Ukraine, and the expansion of cooperation in this area has significant potential.

“Thank you for your support and readiness to continue working together to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security,” the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy concluded.
