First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held a bilateral meeting with Minister for Climate and Energy of Latvia Kaspars Melnis.

Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude to the Republic of Latvia for its consistent support to Ukraine:

“We highly appreciate the assistance that helps strengthen energy resilience even in the most challenging times of war. Since the beginning of the invasion, Ukraine has received 36 shipments from Latvia with a total weight of 685.07 tonnes. An additional EUR 617,000 has been contributed to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. We are grateful,” he noted.

Denys Shmyhal and Kaspars Melnis discussed further steps regarding the transfer to Ukraine of equipment from the decommissioned Riga CHPP.

“We have already inspected all the equipment and identified the components needed by our companies. This equipment will help Ukraine prepare for the next winter. We are working on dismantling and logistics,” the Minister said.

The parties also discussed other areas of cooperation in the energy sector. Ukraine and Latvia are interested in deepening their partnership and implementing joint projects.
