First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with a World Bank delegation led by Managing Director of Operations Anna Bjerde and Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani.
The discussion focused on joint efforts to prepare the updated Energy Strategy of Ukraine.
Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude to the partners for their active contribution to the development of the document. The parties discussed technical aspects of drafting the Strategy and preparations for its presentation at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026) in Gdańsk.
“Our objective is to develop a practical roadmap for strengthening energy security, accelerating reforms, and attracting investment into the energy sector,” the Minister of Energy emphasized.
Denys Shmyhal highlighted key elements of Ukraine’s vision for the future of the energy sector: “Nuclear power generation forms the foundation of this vision. Ukraine possesses all the essential components for its development: natural resources, human capital, and infrastructure potential. At the same time, to enhance the resilience of the power system, Ukraine will continue to expand distributed generation and renewable energy sources.”
The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy also stressed the importance of dispatch optimization and digitalization as key drivers of transformation.
Participants devoted particular attention to energy sector reforms as a prerequisite for attracting investment. Priority areas include reform of the balancing market, corporatization, and tariff policy. The Minister noted that active work on these issues is underway at the level of the Government of Ukraine.
“We highly value the initiatives already implemented and the ongoing cooperation projects. We will continue working together to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience,” Denys Shmyhal concluded.
