First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal marked the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster by recognising specialists who work daily to protect people from radiation risks.

“The accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was a catastrophe that threatened an entire continent. Ukraine is systematically working to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again — and these specialists are at the core of this effort,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.

He noted that during the occupation of the exclusion zone in 2022, personnel continued to perform their duties for more than 600 hours under armed coercion by occupying forces. The enemy caused extensive damage to the area, estimated at over UAH 3 billion. Subsequently, Russian drones targeted the plant’s confinement structure, partially damaging it.

“Despite all these challenges, the work continues, and light will prevail over darkness. Thank you for your professionalism, resilience and dedication. Glory to Ukraine!” Denys Shmyhal said, expressing his gratitude to the specialists.
