The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has dispatched another mission to Ukraine to assess the condition of electrical substations that ensure the stable operation of nuclear power plants. This is already the seventh such mission, with the previous one having taken place earlier this year. This was reported by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
“The team will visit 14 electrical substations. Such assessments help strengthen the resilience of the power system and enhance nuclear safety. During the winter, Russia attempted to destroy these substations, which posed a threat to the stable operation of NPPs and nuclear safety across Europe,” the Minister of Energy noted.
Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude to the IAEA and personally to its Director General, Rafael Grossi, for their consistent efforts aimed at strengthening safety and responding to risks. He also highlighted the systematic work of IAEA missions in Ukraine and their continuous presence at key facilities.
