Denys Shmyhal: The Immediate Priority for Energy Companies Is Compliance with Forecasted Power-Outage Schedules

A regular meeting of the Headquarters for the Elimination of the Consequences of Emergencies in Kyiv and the Kyiv region was held under the chairmanship of First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal. During the meeting, energy companies and local authorities reported on the progress of restoration works.

According to Denys Shmyhal, around 710,000 consumers in the capital are currently without electricity. He stressed that living without clear and predictable schedules creates significant stress for residents. Therefore, the key task for energy companies at this stage is to ensure strict adherence to the forecasted hourly power-outage schedules.

“The state has provided all the necessary support to enable energy companies to shift Kyiv to hourly power-outage schedules. To this end, the headquarters is maintaining constant and close coordination with both energy companies and the city authorities. At the same time, we must be honest: damage to the power system is uneven, so during the first weeks of restoration, schedules may differ between power nodes. This will depend on the throughput capacity of networks in specific areas,” Denys Shmyhal noted.

He also reported that inspections of existing cogeneration facilities in the capital are nearing completion. Experts continue to work on systemic solutions aimed at simplifying procedures for connecting cogeneration units and constructing new power lines.

“Our priority is to ensure the stable operation of cogeneration plants and maximize electricity supply to the grid. This will allow us to partially meet consumer demand and strengthen Kyiv’s energy security,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
