First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with the Management Board and members of the Supervisory Board of NPC Ukrenergo. They discussed the current situation in the power system following the latest Russian attacks, as well as the readiness of the company’s facilities to operate through the autumn-winter period under various scenarios.

The Head of the Ministry of Energy outlined priority tasks to strengthen protection, build up the necessary equipment reserves and ensure personnel safety. These include:

  • Denys Shmyhal instructed Ukrenergo to review and standardise protective design solutions, where necessary, and ensure their implementation within tight deadlines. The transmission system operator must subsequently extend these solutions to all regions.
  • Ukrenergo must submit proposals to simplify the procedures for designing and constructing protective structures. In wartime, the time between a decision being made and its implementation must be kept to a minimum.
  • Efforts to build up equipment reserves will be intensified. Denys Shmyhal instructed the company to conduct a detailed assessment of its needs to establish which critical items are available, where shortages exist and where support from the state and international partners is required.
  • Personnel safety is another priority. The company must complete work to equip and reinforce shelters for substation personnel as soon as possible.

“We must stay one step ahead of the enemy by strengthening protection, building up reserves and preparing solutions in advance for every possible scenario,” the Head of the Ministry of Energy emphasised.
