On the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, together with international partners, held two key events: the so-called “Energy Ramstein” and the International Chornobyl Conference on Recovery and Nuclear Safety under the leadership of Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

As a result of these meetings, a number of important agreements were reached, including:

  • Allocation of €100 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, as well as efforts to mobilise an additional €829 million in funding;
  • Signing of an agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for €30 million to support the first stage of the New Safe Confinement restoration;
  • Commitments from international partners amounting to nearly €100 million for the restoration of the confinement and strengthening nuclear safety in Ukraine;
  • Signing of a memorandum with the International Atomic Energy Agency on the recovery and development of Ukraine’s nuclear sector.

“We thank every country and organisation for their presence on this important date and for their unwavering support for Ukraine,” Denys Shmyhal emphasised.

The Minister also expressed gratitude to Maia Sandu, Odile Renaud-Basso, Rafael Grossi, European Commissioners Valdis Dombrovskis and Dan Jørgensen, as well as ministers and representatives from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Norway, Japan, Italy, the United Nations and the European Investment Bank.
