Denys Shmyhal: Power Engineers Have Restored Electricity Supply in All Regions of Ukraine After the Emergency — Regions Are Returning to Scheduled Outages

31 January 2026, 19:47

Under the chairmanship of First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, a regular meeting of the Headquarters for Emergency Response in Kyiv and the Kyiv region was held.

“Power engineers have restored electricity supply in all regions of Ukraine following a systemic emergency that occurred this morning. All regions are returning to scheduled outage regimes, and high-voltage transmission lines and substations are operating in normal mode. Power engineers acted with maximum efficiency,” Denys Shmyhal noted.

According to him, the most challenging situation today was in the north, the central part of the country, and the Odesa region. In Kyiv, 64 repair crews are working to restore electricity supply. A total of 220 crews are already engaged in restoring heat supply. The work will continue during nighttime hours to restore heat and electricity as quickly as possible.

As a reminder, two incidents occurred on high-voltage transmission lines this morning with a one-minute interval, which led to cascading outages in seven regions of the country. As Denys Shmyhal emphasized, versions suggesting a cyberattack or external interference were not confirmed. According to preliminary assessments, the incidents were caused by icing of power lines and equipment.
