A regular meeting of the Headquarters for the Elimination of the Consequences of Emergencies in Kyiv and the Kyiv region was held under the chairmanship of First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
According to Denys Shmyhal, the capital is currently experiencing a power deficit. As of this evening, approximately 610,000 consumers in Kyiv remain without electricity.
He noted that the Ministry of Energy, in close cooperation with local and regional authorities in Kyiv and the region, has carried out a comprehensive audit of distributed generation capacities. The region, he stressed, has significant potential for the further development of distributed generation.
“Our task is to accelerate the commissioning of these facilities as much as possible. A schedule for their phased launch has already been prepared,” Denys Shmyhal emphasised.
The Ministry of Energy continues to actively engage international partners to support Ukraine’s energy sector. As Denys Shmyhal highlighted, partner countries are providing substantial assistance.
“Sixteen partner countries are supplying generators. A total of 437 generators from the European Union and Japan have already been delivered, and we expect more than 500 in total, with a significant number already en route. Power transformers will also be delivered. The Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Azerbaijan, and Lithuania are providing active support - in total, we expect 52 transformers. We are grateful to all our partners who responded to the call and are supporting our energy workers,” he said.
Denys Shmyhal also announced that schools in Kyiv will remain closed for extended holidays until 1 February, with some educational institutions operating as so-called ‘points of invincibility’. The final decision on the format of education will be taken by the Kyiv City Defence Council.
In addition, Denys Shmyhal drew attention to the dangerous conditions in which energy workers continue to operate, particularly in frontline areas. He reported another tragic loss within the energy sector.
“This morning, a gas service worker was killed in Donetsk Oblast as a result of an attack by a Russian FPV drone. He was on his way to restore gas supplies to residents. I express my sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased,” said the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy.
