As part of a working visit to Ukraine’s southern frontline regions, First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal visited several key energy infrastructure facilities in Mykolaiv region.
Given the continued Russian attacks, one of the most urgent needs for the region’s energy sector remains power transformers required for the operation of electrical substations.
“We are delivering 26 power transformers of various capacities to Mykolaiv region. They will help strengthen the region’s energy resilience. We are grateful to our partners from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), whose support made the procurement of this equipment possible. We are now awaiting the necessary decisions from the local authorities,” Denys Shmyhal stated.
Mykolaiv region has also received eight modern transformer substation units from the Ministry of Energy’s logistics hubs. This humanitarian assistance was provided by Germany’s GIZ, which continues to systematically support Ukraine in strengthening its energy resilience.
Since 2022, fuel and energy sector enterprises in Mykolaiv region have received more than 2,619.5 tonnes of humanitarian energy assistance.
During the visit, the Minister also reviewed the construction of a new cogeneration power plant in Mykolaiv region, a project being implemented jointly with UNDP.
The facility will be equipped with four gas-fired cogeneration units. Two units with a combined capacity of 6.6 MW have already been delivered and installed. Two additional 1.5 MW cogeneration units are expected to be delivered in August. Denys Shmyhal discussed with regional authorities the state funding required to complete the project by the end of the year.
“In addition, with UNDP support, four power transformers have been procured for Mykolaiv region, and we expect them to be delivered this autumn. We are grateful to our partners for their solidarity and continued support,” the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine concluded.
