During his working visit to Kharkiv Region, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal visited a hospital where a solar power plant (SPP) has been installed under a joint initiative of the European Commission, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
“The 100-kW solar power plant installed under the Ray of Hope project will ensure uninterrupted power supply for critical medical infrastructure, including surgical and intensive care equipment. In addition, the installed capacity allows the hospital to reduce electricity costs by up to 30 percent. We are sincerely grateful to Belgium for providing the equipment,” Denys Shmyhal stated.
The Minister familiarized himself with the hospital’s operations, inspected the solar panels, spoke with medical staff, and thanked them for their work under extremely challenging conditions.
The Ray of Hope project is a state initiative aimed at strengthening the energy independence of healthcare institutions in Ukraine through the installation of solar photovoltaic systems and energy storage facilities. The Ministry expressed its gratitude to the European Union for supporting the initiative.
“Overall, more than 500 healthcare institutions are covered by the project, of which 265 are currently at the financing stage. One hundred facilities are at various stages of implementation, while 14 institutions have already launched their own electricity generation since the beginning of 2026,” Denys Shmyhal noted.
The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy also announced an agreement to provide the Kharkiv Regional Clinical Hospital with a high-capacity energy storage system of 1,200 kWh. According to him, this will enhance the hospital’s resilience and autonomy while significantly reducing diesel consumption during winter when backup generators are in use.
“I would like to thank Swiss and Swedish companies for providing a total of eight energy storage systems that will soon arrive in Ukraine and be delivered to frontline regions,” Denys Shmyhal added.
