10 July 2025, 20:20

Within the framework of the Ukraine Recovery Conference URC 2025 in Rome, Ukrainian Minister of Energy German Galushchenko held a bilateral meeting with the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen.

The Minister of Energy briefed the EU Commissioner on the current situation in Ukraine’s energy sector, focusing primarily on the consequences of recent russian attacks on the fuel and energy complex facilities. He emphasized that recently the enemy has intensified attacks, particularly targeting energy infrastructure, using modified means of attack.

Since February 2022, more than 65,000 energy-related damages have been documented. In 2024 alone, russia carried out 33 large-scale attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities, each involving hundreds of missiles and drones, causing significant destruction.

The cooperation to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience was discussed, including EU support regarding gas imports and the availability of capacities for electricity imports from EU member states.

An important area of cooperation is the development of routes for diversifying energy supplies and phasing out russian hydrocarbons.

Special attention was given to the integration of Ukraine into European energy markets and the screening of Ukrainian legislation for compliance with European Union energy law as part of the EU accession process.
