Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko held a bilateral meeting with Iceland’s Minister for Environment, Energy and Climate, Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson. The meeting took place in Warsaw during the meeting of EU energy ministers dedicated to the restoration of Ukraine’s energy system and the European integration of Ukraine and the EU.
The Minister of Energy of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to his Icelandic counterpart for the support provided to Ukraine’s energy sector since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion, particularly for the equipment supplied and Iceland’s contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, total over €5.6 million. German Galushchenko emphasized that the Fund has proven to be an effective mechanism for procuring equipment for Ukrainian energy companies and strengthening the resilience of the energy system. Thanks to the joint efforts of partners and the heroic work of Ukrainian energy workers, repairs after enemy attacks are being carried out promptly.
The parties also discussed the potential for cooperation on geothermal energy projects in Ukraine, as well as the possibility of involving Icelandic specialists in training Ukrainian experts in the field of geothermal energy.
