Deputy Ministers of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak and Olha Yukhymchuk held a meeting with a delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development led by EBRD Managing Director for Ukraine and Moldova, Arvid Tuerkner. The key topic of the meeting was current and future cooperation aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience.
The Deputy Ministers thanked the EBRD for many years of effective partnership in the energy sector and the successful implementation of projects to enhance Ukraine’s energy security, in particular projects for the development of distributed generation, as well as the mobilization of additional financing for the purchase of imported gas as part of preparations for the 2025–2026 heating season.
Arvid Tuerkner also noted that the EBRD’s cooperation with the Ministry and Ukrainian companies in the energy sector is among the most intensive and effective.
Special attention was paid to future cooperation to attract investment in renewable energy, in particular the launch of a risk-reduction mechanism for RES and the holding of auctions for the development of new capacities.
The parties also discussed closer coordination in reforming corporate governance of Ukraine’s state-owned energy companies, which is important for attracting investment into the energy sector.
In addition, they touched upon coordination of cooperation for restoring the integrity of the New Safe Confinement over the Chornobyl NPP, damaged as a result of a russian attack, as well as other areas of cooperation in the exclusion zone.
It should be recalled that earlier Naftogaz of Ukraine and the EBRD signed an agreement for a revolving credit line of €500 million. This is the largest project ever signed by the EBRD in Ukraine and one of the largest in the bank’s history overall. The funds will be directed to financing natural gas purchases.
The Ministry of Energy coordinates the actions of all operators and enterprises, engages international partners, and ensures a comprehensive approach to preparing the energy system in order to guarantee uninterrupted supply of light and heat and to strengthen the country’s energy resilience.
