Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak held a meeting with representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), led by the Head of the Infrastructure Projects Mission, Shigeru Sugiyama. The parties discussed ways to enhance the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation and to strengthen Ukraine's energy resilience amid intensified enemy attacks.

“Every night, Russia continues its attempts to damage Ukraine’s energy sector. Gas production and transmission facilities, as well as power substations, remain among the primary targets. We face an urgent need to strengthen the physical protection of energy infrastructure and to secure sufficient reserves of backup equipment to accelerate the repair of damaged facilities,” emphasized Roman Andarak.

The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to JICA for the timely delivery of equipment, which has played a pivotal role in protecting the country’s critical infrastructure and ensuring the uninterrupted operation of hospitals, schools, water supply systems, and other essential facilities.

“This assistance is not only a practical contribution to restoring our energy system, but also a symbol of the reliable partnership and friendship between Japan and Ukraine,” noted Roman Andarak.

The parties also discussed the next steps to bolster the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system, including financial, technical, and organizational aspects of the delivery, installation, and connection of already procured generators, transformers, and other energy equipment in frontline regions. The meeting also addressed accelerating the delivery of transformers, cargo cranes, wind turbines, and solar power plants to state-owned energy companies, including Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine, Ukrhydroenergo, Energoatom, and others.
