The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have launched the Ukraine Energy Installation Facility (UEIF), a nationwide platform designed to help finance and coordinate the final stages of energy project implementation. These include engineering assessments, site preparation, equipment installation, grid connections, commissioning and quality assurance.
The launch of the mechanism was announced on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The project will be implemented over five years.
“Restoring our energy system requires speed, scale and precision,” said Denys Shmyhal, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy. “The Ukraine Energy Installation Facility is a practical tool that will help turn international assistance into effective energy infrastructure. Together with UNDP and our international partners, we are accelerating project implementation, strengthening technical capacity and ensuring that critical energy facilities serve people and communities throughout Ukraine.”
The Facility will be implemented in cooperation with central government authorities, local self-government bodies, municipal utility operators, technical experts and private-sector representatives.
“International partners have helped equip Ukraine with critically important equipment. However, equipment alone cannot provide electricity to hospitals, schools, water supply systems or businesses. It must be installed and commissioned quickly and at scale. The Ukraine Energy Installation Facility bridges the gap between equipment delivery and the restoration of energy supply. Building on UNDP’s capacity to implement projects at every stage — from project preparation and engineering design to installation, commissioning and transparent reporting — the Facility will help ensure more reliable electricity, heat and water supplies for millions of Ukrainians. We invite our partners to join these efforts and help accelerate Ukraine’s energy recovery,” said UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo.
