The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft law amending the Law of Ukraine “On the Electricity Market,” aimed at enhancing the reliability of electricity supply for consumers.
Subsequent approval of this draft law by Parliament will strengthen the institutional capacity of the state, enabling more effective monitoring and reducing the risks of electricity shortages, which cause millions of losses to the economy each year.
The draft law provides for:
- Increasing the accountability of electricity market participants for complying with schedules for equipment repair and modernization, accumulating necessary fuel reserve, and implementing other measures essential for ensuring the country’s energy security;
- Strengthening oversight of the actions of transmission and distribution system operators when applying forced measures to restrict electricity consumption.
“Our goal is to guarantee a stable and secure electricity supply to every consumer. This draft law enhances the state’s capacity to supervise the technical condition of the energy infrastructure, respond effectively to risks, and prevent accidents. This is a critical step strengthening the country's energy security and ensuring sustainable economic development,” the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine emphasized.
