All responsible services are operating in a coordinated manner to restore electricity and heat as quickly as possible following another massive attack by Russia. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk during the telethon “United News”.
According to him, the main blow was inflicted on Kyiv and Kyiv region. As a result, significant damage occurred to electricity transmission system facilities—including substations and overhead power lines—as well as generation assets. The enemy also carried out targeted strikes on district heating facilities and boiler houses, attempting to exploit the severe cold and leave Ukrainians without both electricity and heat.
"Currently, over 500,000 consumers are without power in Kyiv and the surrounding oblast. In response, emergency outages have been introduced in Kyiv region as a necessary measure to carry out technical work to stabilise the power system. Restoration works are ongoing. Additionally, due to Russian shelling, the city of Slavutych is also without electricity—restoration works are currently underway there," added the Deputy Minister.
Adverse weather conditions have further complicated the operation of the power system. Ice accretion on power lines has caused additional damage to the network. Emergency crews are simultaneously addressing the consequences of both the attacks and the severe weather, despite high workloads.
"Despite massive strikes, Ukraine’s power system remains united and operates synchronously with the European Union’s ENTSO-E system. The main factor affecting supply stability is the damage to generation, transmission, and distribution facilities," noted Mykola Kolisnyk.
He emphasised that the day before, a meeting of the Anti-Crisis Energy Headquarters was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of Ukraine, during which all necessary measures were coordinated to stabilise the power system amid massive attacks and falling temperatures.
