The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Svitlana Grynchuk, held a meeting with a Dutch delegation led by the Deputy Minister for International Cooperation of the Netherlands, Pascalle Grotenhuis, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ukraine, Alle Dorhout.
“The Netherlands remain a reliable partner in supporting Ukraine’s energy sector. The country’s contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund already amount to €65 million,” Svitlana Grynchuk wrote on her Facebook page.
During the meeting, the parties primarily discussed russia’s shelling of Ukrainian energy facilities and the assistance the Netherlands can provide to supply Ukraine with backup equipment and necessary materials for rapid repairs and restoration, which are essential for successfully passing the heating season.
They also discussed the involvement of Dutch companies in cooperation with Ukrainian energy enterprises in the context of implementing joint projects and developing distributed generation. The parties agreed to work on organizing a trade mission on sustainable energy to Ukraine.
The possibility of the Netherlands’ participation in the Ukraine Renewable Energy Risk Mitigation Mechanism (URMM), which was presented at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome, was also discussed.
In the context of cooperation on energy transition and decentralized solutions, the parties touched upon the development of the biomethane market in Ukraine.
“For us, the Netherlands’ support is important in securing the recognition of Ukrainian biomethane as renewable gas by the European Union, as well as the potential recognition of Ukraine as a country implementing a single mass balance system,” Svitlana Grynchuk emphasized.
The Minister also invited partners to join the government’s program Energy Independence of Individuals – Household Owners, which enables Ukrainians to become more energy independent and develop renewable generation for self-consumption. Currently, the mechanism of the program is being revised to attract additional financial support from international donors.
“I am grateful to Ms. Pascalle Grotenhuis for the meaningful dialogue. I thank the government and people of the Netherlands for their support, which is crucial for countering russian aggression and ensuring energy security,” Svitlana Grynchuk noted.
