Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk announced the completion of works to ensure uninterrupted power supply in 20 medical institutions across the country under the “Ray of Hope” programme.
During a visit to one of the hospitals in the Odesa region, where a solar generation system and energy storage have recently been installed, the Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining stable energy supply, especially in regions affected by frequent shelling.
“Today we are in the Odesa region, where the enemy attacks the energy system almost daily. Yet even in these difficult conditions, there are places that bring light and hope. This is especially true where the health and lives of our children are protected every minute,” Ms. Grynchuk noted.
As part of the programme, the hospital received a 100 kW solar power plant and a 40 kWh energy storage system, which will ensure continuous power supply for critical medical equipment, including the intensive care unit.
“This means that even in the event of power outages, the hospital will have its own reliable source of electricity to maintain uninterrupted operation and provide urgent care to young patients,” the Minister added.
The “Ray of Hope” programme is jointly implemented by the European Commission, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Health, with funding from the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. Since its launch in March 2023, 300 medical institutions have joined the programme; equipment installation has already begun in 38 facilities, and 20 hospitals have fully completed their upgrades.
Speaking about the situation in the Odesa region, Ms. Grynchuk underscored that alternative energy sources play a crucial role in ensuring resilience: “Under conditions of constant attacks on the region’s energy infrastructure, alternative generation is truly a lifeline. Together with local authorities, businesses, and international partners, we continue to work on strengthening the region’s energy resilience.”
