Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk and German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Katherina Reiche visited an energy infrastructure facility that had been damaged during recent Russian air strikes. During the visit, the parties discussed measures to enhance the physical protection of energy facilities and further German assistance in their restoration.
“Energy workers are working around the clock to repair damaged equipment and restore power to people as quickly as possible,” said Svitlana Grynchuk.
The minister informed her German counterpart of the urgent needs of Ukraine’s energy system, including the need to increase reserves of equipment for rapid recovery following attacks and to strengthen the physical protection of critical infrastructure. These remain key areas of cooperation with international partners.
“This month alone, the enemy has carried out two missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s energy system. The main targets remain power generation facilities, transmission and distribution infrastructure, railways, and gas facilities. The aggressor continues to use the tactic of ‘double terror,’ repeatedly attacking facilities to complicate their restoration. Despite this, Ukraine’s energy sector remains resilient and capable of responding quickly,” emphasized Svitlana Grynchuk.
The head of the Ministry of Energy thanked Katherina Reiche and the German government for their continued support and reliable partnership. She noted that since the start of the full-scale invasion, Germany’s total contribution to Ukraine’s energy sector has reached EUR 384.8 million.
