Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk took part in the G7 Energy Ministers’ Summit in Toronto. As a result of the meeting, for the first time ever, the G7 Energy Ministers issued a joint statement dedicated specifically to Ukraine’s energy security.

“This document declares their unwavering support for Ukraine, their readiness to further contribute to strengthening our energy security, and their recognition of the large-scale negative impact of Russia’s aggression on the global energy security situation,” emphasized Svitlana Grynchuk.

Key points from the statement:

  • Recognition of heroism and resilience — The ministers acknowledged the courage and dedication of Ukrainian energy workers who restore energy infrastructure under constant attacks, noting that Russian strikes create significant risks for Ukraine’s population and its energy security.
  • Continued support — The G7 reaffirmed its consistent assistance to Ukraine in restoring energy infrastructure, in particular through the G7+ Coordination Group on Energy and the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The ministers pledged to continue supporting the protection of energy facilities and to cooperate with the IAEA to strengthen nuclear safety and security in Ukraine.
  • Stronger sanctions against Russia — The partners agreed on the need to unite efforts and increase pressure on the aggressor. Tougher sanctions against Russian energy-related companies and the elimination of Russia’s shadow tanker fleet will significantly limit the Kremlin’s ability to finance its war against Ukraine.

As part of the summit, Ukraine also officially joined new G7 initiatives focused on critical minerals, digital energy infrastructure, and AI-driven innovations to strengthen energy security and develop sustainable and resilient energy systems.

“I thank my G7 colleagues for their unity and steadfast support for Ukraine,” said Svitlana Grynchuk.
