Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk expressed her hope that the Verkhovna Rada will approve, in the second reading and in full, the draft law on the integration of Ukraine's electricity market into the EU market this September.
She emphasized this during the national telethon “United News.”
The Minister noted that Ukraine’s energy system is already technically synchronized with the European network, while work continues to align the legislative framework with EU standards.
“The energy sector is currently one of the most European-integrated sectors, and this work is ongoing. I hope that in September, the Verkhovna Rada will adopt one of the key laws on market integration. Afterward, more technical legislation remains – strengthening the independence of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) and harmonizing permitting procedures for renewable energy with EU requirements,” the Minister noted.
As a reminder, at the end of July, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading the draft law On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on the Implementation of EU Law Regarding Energy Market Integration, Supply Security, and Competitiveness in the Energy Sector’ (Reg. No. 12087-d).
This draft law was a central topic during the screening of Ukrainian legislation for compliance with the EU acquis in the energy chapter. Its full adoption in the near future will ensure the synchronization of electricity markets at the beginning of 2027.
