During a meeting with the Chargé d’Affaires of the United Kingdom in Ukraine Charlotte Suren, Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk discussed key areas of energy cooperation within the framework of the Strategic Partnership Dialogue between Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
The parties focused on the development of nuclear energy and renewable energy sources, diversification of supply sources and routes, harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with EU law, and the further integration of Ukraine’s energy markets with those of the European Union.
Minister Grynchuk informed the British side about the consequences of Russia's recent attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which were accompanied by acts of terror against the civilian population. She also expressed regret over the damage caused to the British Council's premises.
The discussion also covered the current state of Ukraine’s energy system and preparations for the autumn-winter period. Priority needs include strengthening the physical protection of critical infrastructure, establishing a strategic reserve of essential equipment and materials, and securing the necessary resources for electricity generation and distribution.
The parties also discussed further steps for cooperation on decarbonization of thermal generation, implementation of innovations, and financing of joint projects under the Innovate Ukraine program. To date, 13 projects have received support, 85% of which are being implemented with the participation of Ukrainian partners. The results of the next stage of the competitive selection will be announced in October.
“I thank Charlotte for the substantive dialogue, her deep understanding of the challenges facing Ukraine’s energy sector, and her readiness to support their resolution. I also express my gratitude to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for its continued support of Ukraine, which is extremely important as we counter Russian aggression and strengthen our energy security,” emphasized Svitlana Grynchuk.
The United Kingdom remains one of the largest donors to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. Its total contributions have reached nearly €102 million, directed toward the restoration and enhanced protection of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
