Svitlana Grynchuk: We Must Increase Pressure on russia and Jointly Ensure Nuclear and Radiation Safety in Ukraine and Across the Entire European Continent

Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk, on the sidelines of the 69th IAEA General Conference, held a meeting with the Permanent Representatives of the EU countries to the IAEA.

“In the conditions when russia continues to deliberately shell Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, coordination of efforts with partner countries within the framework of the Agency is of exceptional importance,” Svitlana Grynchuk emphasized.

The Minister informed her colleagues about the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, occupied by russia. The largest nuclear power plant in Europe has already experienced nine blackouts due to damage caused by shelling of the only power transmission line supplying the plant. The Minister appealed to partners to exert influence on the occupiers and provide Ukrainian energy workers with access and safe conditions to carry out repairs of the power lines.

Svitlana Grynchuk noted that the enemy does not cease shelling Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. As a result of one of such attacks, the new safe confinement of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant was damaged. Cooperation with partners, including within the framework of the IAEA, for its restoration is one of Ukraine’s priorities.

“We must make every effort to increase pressure on russia and jointly ensure nuclear and radiation safety both in Ukraine and throughout the entire European continent. The EU must introduce a new package of sanctions against the aggressor. We are grateful to the European Union for its constant support of Ukraine and hope for the votes of partners in favor of the draft resolution prepared by Ukraine for the IAEA General Conference,” Svitlana Grynchuk stressed.
