Wärtsilä and Ukrnafta signed a framework agreement on the supply of turnkey equipment for gas piston power units.
The relevant agreements were reached during the meeting between First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal and Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo.
“Together with the Finnish-Ukrainian Investment Facility (FUIF) and Ukrnafta, we are implementing a phased programme for the deployment of distributed gas-fired generation. Within the first phase, an €80 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has already been secured, the loan agreement has been signed, the state guarantee confirmed, and procurement procedures under EBRD rules are ongoing,” Denys Shmyhal stated.
For the next stages, Ukraine plans to use FUIF financing to scale up the programme, including through the installation of gas piston power plants based on Wärtsilä equipment.
“All relevant projects are aimed at rapidly strengthening the energy security of the regions, balancing Ukraine’s integrated power system, and ensuring the resilience of critical infrastructure. We thank Finland for its high level of support!” emphasized First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
