During a working visit to Finland, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Oleksandr Viazovchenko held a series of meetings with representatives of Finnish companies, including Verona Shelters Group and Fortum, focused on energy security, implementation of advanced technologies for the protection of energy infrastructure, and post-war recovery of Ukraine’s energy sector.

The meetings addressed strategic areas of cooperation for the development and implementation of integrated security systems at energy and civilian facilities in accordance with international standards, as well as opportunities to adopt Finnish experience in physical, technical, and corporate protection. Approaches to multi-level protection of nuclear facilities were also discussed.

“Finland has unique experience in applying multi-level security systems, threat monitoring, and protection against potential cyberattacks. For Ukraine, this experience is extremely valuable, as it allows us to strengthen the resilience of the energy system and enhance the protection of nuclear energy facilities under wartime conditions,” Oleksandr Viazovchenko noted.

The Deputy Minister also briefed partners on the current state of Ukraine’s energy system, threats to critical infrastructure, and Russia’s criminal actions, which pose unprecedented danger not only to Ukraine but to all of Europe. He emphasized the importance of consolidating international efforts and resources for the post-war recovery of Ukraine’s energy sector, taking into account energy transition goals, decarbonization, and energy efficiency improvements.

During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and Verona Shelters Group. The document provides for the creation and operation of the Shelter Academy in Ukraine, which will serve as an educational and technological center for training specialists, increasing readiness for emergencies, and implementing modern solutions in the field of energy security.

“Strengthening cooperation with Finland in energy security is extremely important for Ukraine. We value the support and joint projects that enhance our resilience against energy-related threats,” Oleksandr Viazovchenko emphasized.

The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to Finnish partners for the constructive dialogue and their readiness to continue supporting the enhancement of Ukraine’s energy security and the restoration of its energy infrastructure.
