The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Svitlana Grynchuk, held a meeting with the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero of the United Kingdom, Ed Miliband. The parties discussed the current state of Ukraine’s energy sector and prospects for bilateral partnership. In particular, the conversation focused on strengthening the protection of energy infrastructure, implementing innovative projects, and preparing for the heating season.
Svitlana Grynchuk informed her British colleague about the challenges the sector faces due to the ongoing attacks by the russian federation: the loss of equipment, the need for urgent repairs and enhanced physical protection of facilities, as well as the expansion of natural gas imports ahead of the heating season.
"Our top priorities are to ensure reliable protection of the energy infrastructure and to create equipment reserves for the rapid restoration of damaged facilities. We are grateful to the United Kingdom for its consistent support in these matters," stated Minister of Energy Svitlana Grynchuk.
Ed Miliband expressed solidarity with Ukrainian energy workers and confirmed the United Kingdom’s continued readiness to support Ukraine in countering russian aggression.
The United Kingdom has already provided Ukraine with generators, gabions to protect infrastructure facilities, and other equipment, as well as contributed more than 101.9 million euros to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
The parties also discussed the development of joint projects under the Innovate Ukraine programme, which include the implementation of technologies aimed at increasing energy resilience, the production of green hydrogen, and the development of geothermal energy.
