The Government of the United Kingdom has confirmed a GBP 210 million loan guarantee to support the stable supply of enriched uranium from Urenco to Ukraine’s nuclear power plants over the next two years.
This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal following a meeting with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, representatives of UK Export Finance (UKEF), and Urenco, held on the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026 (URC) in Gdańsk.
“These are important arrangements that will help ensure the continued reliable operation of Ukraine’s nuclear generation fleet. Nuclear power remains the backbone of a stable and predictable energy system. I am grateful to our British partners for their cooperation and efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.
As part of URC 2026, JSC NNEGC Energoatom and Urenco signed the relevant agreement. The guarantee is being provided by the UK Government through UK Export Finance (UKEF).
In addition, on the sidelines of the Energy Platform at URC 2026, JSC NNEGC Energoatom and the Czech company ŠKODA JS signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at developing a strategic partnership in the field of nuclear energy.
The document lays the foundation for expanding cooperation in several key areas, including:
- construction, operation, and maintenance of nuclear power plant units;
- implementation of projects to modernize and enhance the safety of nuclear power plants;
- scientific and technical cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy;
- management of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste.
