The Polish gas transmission system operator Gaz-System and the Gas Transmission Operator of Ukraine have agreed on a phased increase in capacity for gas imports from Poland to Ukraine starting February 2026. By the end of April, the capacity in this direction will grow from 15.3 million cubic meters to 18.4 million cubic meters per day. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.

According to him, this agreement is important for ensuring stable heat supply to Ukrainian homes, hospitals, schools, and critical infrastructure.

- As a result of overnight enemy attacks on energy infrastructure, consumers in Kharkiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk regions remain without electricity. Emergency restoration works continue in all regions where the security situation permits.

- In Kyiv and the Kyiv region, a significant electricity deficit persists. The situation remains tense, and emergency outages are being applied. A return to the forecasted schedules of hourly outages will take place after the energy system stabilizes.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The discussion focused on further cooperation to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security, in particular the mobilization of additional financing for natural gas imports.

A meeting of the Headquarters for the Elimination of the Consequences of Emergencies was held under the chairmanship of First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal. The main focus of the meeting was the progress of efforts to restore heat and electricity supply.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal welcomed the EU Council’s decision to adopt a definitive phased ban on imports of Russian gas. He announced this on his social media platform X.

According to Denys Shmyhal, the European Union will introduce a complete ban on Russian LNG from early 2027 and on pipeline gas from autumn 2027. The regulation provides for significant penalties for violations, ranging from EUR 2.5 million for individuals to EUR 40 million for companies.

- A significant electricity deficit persists in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The situation remains difficult, and emergency power outages are in effect. A return to predictable hourly outage schedules will be possible after the situation in the energy system stabilizes.

“The situation in the energy system remains difficult, with a significant capacity deficit. However, thanks to coordinated actions by Ukrenergo and distribution system operators, we are seeing a trend toward partial stabilization,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.

At the initiative of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Government has approved a resolution launching an experimental project to support employees of emergency repair and restoration crews who are currently restoring electricity, heat, and water supply to Ukrainian households and businesses.
