Ukraine is an integral component of the emerging model of transatlantic energy relations between Europe and the United States, where regional gas security is ensured through diversified supply routes and transparent market mechanisms. The utilization of Ukraine’s gas transmission system and underground gas storage facilities to store and balance American LNG supplies to Eastern Europe will significantly strengthen this architecture.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal chaired a meeting of the Energy Headquarters following another overnight attack on energy infrastructure.

“Last night, Russia once again targeted our energy infrastructure. We heard reports from the relevant services on the aftermath response. The air defence forces repelled the attack with dignity. We are grateful to them,” he stated.

According to the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy, the shelling resulted in damage to energy facilities.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal participated in a discussion between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and representatives of international business, with the participation of the President’s Advisor on Economic Development, Chrystia Freeland.

The meeting focused on the urgent needs of Ukraine’s energy sector and opportunities to attract private capital for its recovery and modernization.

The Government has allocated more than UAH 1.6 billion from the state budget to carry out works aimed at ensuring the safety of the confinement at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The funds will, inter alia, be directed towards addressing the consequences of Russia’s terrorist attack against the protective shelter of the plant.

Despite the challenging wartime conditions, Ukraine will continue efforts to maintain the three power units of the Chornobyl NPP, the spent nuclear fuel storage facility, and radioactive waste storage facilities in a safe condition.

- During the night and morning, the enemy carried out a combined large-scale attack on energy infrastructure in several regions of Ukraine. As a result, some consumers in the Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, and Kharkiv regions remain without electricity supply.

- Wherever the security situation permits, emergency restoration works have already commenced. Power engineers are making every effort to return the damaged equipment to operation as quickly as possible.

The Naftogaz Group, in cooperation with the Lithuanian state energy holding Ignitis Group, will ensure the supply of 90 million cubic metres of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine. The delivery will be carried out via the LNG terminal in Klaipėda during February and March of this year, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal announced.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. They discussed the current situation in Ukraine’s energy system and the practical implementation of agreements reached between the leaders of Ukraine and Azerbaijan — Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ilham Aliyev — in Munich.

Canada has announced a new contribution of €12.4 million to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine. The country’s total contribution to the Fund now amounts to €44.6 million.

The funds will be directed toward the procurement and delivery of energy equipment for Ukrainian energy companies to support the restoration of infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal took part in a meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre.

The parties discussed cooperation in the energy sector, with particular focus on support for ensuring a stable heating season amid ongoing russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy and gas infrastructure.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with Anna Bjerde, Managing Director for Operations at the World Bank, and Antonella Bassani, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia. The parties reviewed the results of their joint work and outlined further steps for cooperation. In particular, Denys Shmyhal expressed his appreciation for the preparation of RDNA5 and the implementation of joint initiatives in the energy sector.
